All the participating ophthalmologists did it as voluntary work
The intraocular lenses and the medicines were financed by VSF
The project consists of two parts:
• Carrying out sight revision of the affected population by tsunami to detect the cataracts
• donating reading and sun glasses.
Different “eye camps” were done in several areas in the south of India, and the people treated were given the correct glasses when necessary.
Following through out the project Supports Eyes, developed in AIMShospital Cochi (Kerala).
The cataracts operations were done in the ofthalmological operating room of the hospital. All patients had intraocular lens of later camera implanted.The operations were programmed when the operating room was available, operating an average of 12 eyes per day. All the patients with cataracts found in the countryside where we went received the totally free operation
