Objectives:
The project was carried out in two different places: Rundu and Katima
1. Carrying out sight revision, refraction and donation of glasses in the areas of Rundu and Katima
2. Carrying out surgeries on cataracts in Windhoek opthalmological hospital
Rundu the work was mainly with children, being moderate and high myopia the most common refracting problems. In adults the main cause for blindness was cataracts and the pathology of previous pole was caused mainly by ocular trauma.
In Katima the examined population were adults, being cataracts the main cause for blindness. People were treated and the necessary glasses were given to read or to work in short distance.
Conclusion:
Work carried out with the ophtalmologist Dra. Helena Ndume in the Windhoek central hospital from 21st to 28th August 2004.
Material was brought from Spain, 125 intraocular lenses to make the same amount of surgery of previous segment. The surgery consists of the extraction of the pacificado crystalline and be replaced by an intraocular lens with the right prescription.
All the collyriums, antibiotics, sutures and another necessary surgical material were supplied to carry out the operations.
